5th into 6th Presentation
5th into 6th Grade informational letter
January 2025
Dear Parents/Guardians:
To help with the transition to Middle School, you are invited to attend a scheduling informational meeting for parents/guardians of current fifth grade students entering sixth grade for the 2025-2026 school year at Memorial Middle School. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 4, from 6:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Auditorium. The agenda for the meeting will include information about sixth grade course selections, programs available to students, and the transition to middle school. Parents will also have an opportunity to ask questions about the presented information. This meeting is only intended for parents. The presentation will also be shared via our website.
Memorial school counselor, Mrs. Jenn Brown, will be visiting the Memorial feeder elementary buildings following the parent meeting to meet with all of the fifth grade students to share a similar presentation. Scheduling and course information will be presented and students will have an opportunity to ask questions. At that time, your student will receive a copy of their course recommendations for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. They will also be directed to select elective choices with your consent.
Mentor Public Schools issues an annual Program of Studies booklet for both the middle and high school levels. The Middle School Program of Studies is available at this link HERE. This online tool provides detailed information about every course offered and includes course descriptions, prerequisites, course sequencing, required fees and more. Please take advantage of this resource and spend time looking at and talking about classes with your student to better help him/her with what is ahead.
We would also like to share a ‘Save The Date’ for you and your incoming student for a Get to Know Memorial Night on Thursday May 8th from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. The evening is structured to be a self-guided open house. Students will receive an agenda at the main entrance upon arriving. It is a great way for students to get oriented with the building and assimilate into their new school environment. Families are free to come and go as they please.
Middle school is an extremely important time in the lives of our students in terms of their academic, social-emotional and overall development. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have now and throughout their middle school experience. We are excited to get to know and welcome our incoming sixth grade students and families.
Sincerely,
Ericka Blackburn, Principal
Jana Jenkins, Assistant Principal (A-L)
Michael Murawski, Assistant Principal (M-Z)
Jenn Brown, School Counselor
